Hikari flinched when she heard the voice behind her, fading out of fear and shock. He'd scared her. She hadn't expected him to follow her. She took a shaky, unneeded breath and shook her head, her body a bit tense.
"N-no thank you, please. I need to go..." She said quickly, about to bolt off towards Tabby. However, when she processed his words, she realized that he was offering to let her take Jake. Her eyes widened. "No, no...it's ok. I couldn't possibly take your pet. Tabby was just joking, I'm sure. She loves furry animals, but we couldn't possibly take your pet away from you."
She babbled more than she usually did, but it was out of nervousness more than anything. Jake seemed to look like he wanted to go with her, and he hopped over to her and stared up at her, then the drink. She took the soda in her hands and eyed it warily. She couldn't drink it, so she supposed she'd need to give it to the cat. Was that really healthy?
"Um...but if you really think it's ok, I suppose he could stay with us for a little while. I promise we'll bring him back soon, though." She said softly, picking Jake up and solidifying herself. "How about we just let him spend the night one night?"
She giggled and scratched him behind the ears, smiling. "As long as he doesn't mind being stuck in a room with two girls."
It seemed Jake helped her open up around Matt. Maybe animals helped her stay relaxed, when they didn't scare her. There may be hope for her yet. She blinked up at Matt. "So um...I'll see you later? I really have to get to Tabby."
She politely excused herself again and walked quickly in the direction Tabby had pointed out as the way to the dorms. Carrying the kitty and the bottle of soda for him, she was unable to fade and hide from the many students also going to the dorms, but they all seemed as preoccupied as her. She easily spotted the dorm building and went inside, fading through the door instead of opening it. As soon as she was inside, she spotted Tabby and rushed over to her, sinking into the chair beside her. She let out a relieved sigh. She was back with her friend; everything was ok. She wasn't alone in this scary place any more.
"I got the cat." She said softly, plopping Jake down in her friend's lap. Tabby's eyes shot open and she smiled, turning to Hikari and giving her a thumbs-up.
Hikari beamed, then took a moment to look at the lobby. She didn't spend much time looking around though, for the many people around them scared her. "Um...Tabby, can we just go up to our dorm now?" She whispered, wanting to just get to their dorm and rest for a bit. This morning had been exhausting...All she wanted to do was go to the dorm, unpack their stuff, and disappear into a good book.
Tabby nodded, and the two girls went upstairs to their new room.
